This weekend I did my Windsurfing coach I level with Carmen Denis in Ste-Agathe.
It was really usefull and I learned a lot.

Entraînement au lac champlain

Aujourd'hui je suis allé faire de la planhce avec Alain au lac Champlain. C'était des conditions parfaites pour moi. 15 noeuds le matin et dans les 20 noeuds et + en après midi.
Nous avons travailler sur la ligne droite au près et largue. J'ai beaucoup appris et il faut maintenant que je fasse mes devoirs avant la prochaine sortie avec Alain.

I learned a lot sailing with Alain in Lake Champlain today. With 15 knots in the morning and 20+ in the afternoon it was a great session.
We worked on strait line speed. Now I have to work on all that new material before next training session.

Championnat des dériveurs du Québec

J'ai beaucoup aimé ma fin de semaine à Ste-Agathe.
Nous étions 6 planches dont trois sénior.
Les conditons étaient au planning la première journée et au pumping la deuxième donc pour tous les goûts.
J'ai réussit à gagner une course et sinon j'ai fini deuxième.

Je vais commencer à me faire entraîner par Alain Bolduc cette semaine.

The weekend was great. I won my first race and finished 2 nd overall with 3 seniors and 6 boards.
I learned a lot and will learn even more because Alain Bolduc is going to start to train me this week.

CORK serie II

Et bien c'est fini. J'ai maintenant fait ma première régatte en planche. J'ai fini 6 ième sur 8 planches mais surtout j'ai beaucoup appris.
J'ai hâte de retourner à l'entraînement et de continuer à progresser.

I finished 6th in a fleet of 8 but the most important is that I learned a lot. I can't wait to get back into my training and keep improving.

CORK serie I

CORK serie I was a hard regatta. The wind never really allowed us to get on a clear plane. The level of sailors was very high as the European champion and 2nd place was there. Also the company PS 2000 chartered many boats from the Youth Worlds for 1$ to make the event bigger.
A total or 63 boats came to the event.
We finished 12th.

This is also the end of me coaching the Ontario 29er team. This was a great partnership. I think that everyone on the team benefited from my knowledge.

Now it is time to get ready for CORK serie II on the RSX.

C'est la fin de CORK serie I. Nous avons eu des conditions difficile pour des "gros" marins comme Andrew et moi. Nous avons fini 12ième sur 63.
Le niveau était très élevé. Les champions et vice champions des championnats Européens étaient présent.

C'est aussi la fin de mon partenariat avec l'équipe de voile de l'Ontario. Je pense que tout le monde a apprécié mon travail.

C'est maintenant le moment de faire de la planche pour CORK serie II

RSX à Hamilton

Pour les championnats Canadiens de 29er mon équipe a fini 1ère et 2ième sur 32 bateaux. C'est excellent!

Youth World Wrap up

Strong shifty winds wrap up the Regatta

Competitors were greeted with close to gale force winds early on that tapered off to just some plain solid wind, at 16-20 knots with big shifts and large velocity changes. Canada’s overall outcomes on the day were not what dreams are made of but our sailors on all fronts showed character and were true ambassadors to the sport and to Canada. All should be commended for their perseverance over the course of the event and their dedication to their personal best performances. With only one race scheduled, the entire team went out to give it their all for one last time.

On the Single Handed course Robert Davis fought with the heavy winds and placed 22nd in his fleet. At the end of the regatta, he finished in 14th place over all - a fantastic achievement given the amount of time he has been able to train in these conditions.

Isabella Berthold also worked very hard in today's race but her 10th place finish with dropped her to 7th overall in the fleet. Still, the experience was a fantastic add to her sailing resume, and we hope to see a lot more of Isabella in the years to come.

On the Double Handed course, the tough conditions provided an opportunity for everyone to test themselves in tough conditions. 29er Boys representatives Nicholas Kroeger and Peter Soosalu placed 16th in today’s race, which put them in 21st place overall in the fleet at the end of the event.

The 29er Girls Alanna Foscarini and Alison Ledzki managed to finish 10th in today’s race which moved them up to 13th position overall.

In the Hobie class, Mark Pataky and Jon Scott applied the lessons learned earlier in the week and pulled an 11th place finish today, and in the end finished the regatta in 14th place overall.

On the Windsurfer course, David Hayes attacked the start line because he wanted to get a bullet - which was needed in order to move up and challenge for a medal. Unfortunately, David was over the start line early and scored an OCS today, which left him at a very respectable 6th overall, and the top Canadian at the event.

When asked about the event, Canadian Head Coach Ken Dool stated “Another event down, more experience gained and now the opportunity to reflect and address both strengths and shortcomings in the weeks and months ahead. This event in reality is just the tip of the iceberg for some of these young athletes, their sailing careers in earnest just in the infancy stages, growth will come from here, it is those that can take what they learned and but it into constructive practice that will be successful in the future.”

Congratulations to the entire team. They said at the outset that they are "not here to not win" and regardless of their final positions they won through the experience that they gained at this event as they continue on their international sailing competitive career. For most, this was their first VOLVO Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship but not their last.

Preparation before Youth Worlds

We are training hard and start to see some good improvement.

Entraînement à Montréal

C'est l'entraînement régulier qui fait progresser. En ce moment je focus sur mon entraînement physique en prennant des cours à CrossFit Montréal
En plus je fais au moins une session sur l'eau 5 à 6 jours semaine (parfois deux).
Ça commence déjà à ce voir. Je peux passer plus de temps sur l'eau et mes manoeuvres commencent à être plus solides par vent faible. Il me reste à travailler le vent médium et fort. Je n'ai pas encore vraiment eu l'occasion de naviguer par plus de 12 noeuds.

I also sail 5-6 days a week on the RSX. My light air sailing is getting better but I need some windier days to start to learn how to plane.

OST camp

This week end I was in Toronto to coach the Ontario 29er Sailing Team.
Over all it was a good camp even if we didn't get much wind. It is good to focus on fitness, nutrition and physical preparation too.

Camp 29er FVQ

Jeudi, vendredi, samedi et dimanche c'était le camp de 29er de la fédération de voile du Québec.
J'ai coaché à partir d'un 29er car nous étions seulement 4 bateaux (3 sans moi).
Tout s'est bien passé. La fin de semaine prochaine je fais la même chose pour la fédération de voile de l'Ontario. L'équipe des championnats du monde junior Canadienne sera présente.

Durant la fin de semaine j'ai aussi eu la chance de faire de la planche à voile avec Carmen Denis (une entraîneure niveau IV en planche).

Last week was the FVQ 29er camp. I coached from a 29er, it was a great opportunitie for sailors to learn hands on tips.
Over the week end I also had the chance to windsurf with a very good coach, Carmen Denis.

Next week end is the Ontario sailing Team Camp. I will coach the Youth World 29er team.

Club de la médaille d'or

Je suis très content de savoir que le club de la médaille d'or existe. En deux mots c'est une initiative privée qui offre des bourses aux athlètes au moment où ils en ont le plus besoin. C'est arrivé au bon moment pour moi :)

Une régate toute aussi difficile que les OCR mais où nous nous eu une bien meilleure amélioration.
En terminant 28iéme sur 39 nous sommes une position derrière Rob Dale et Hunter Lowden qui sont membre de l'équipe nationnal Canadienne depuis déjà deux ans.

Same caliber of sailors but a better regatta for us. We finished 28th out of 39 and improved everyday during the 49er North American.
In 27th, just infront of us is Rob Dale and Hunter Lowden, national team members for the last 2 years. One day it will be our turn!

La régate est finie.
On a eu un résultat plus ou moins à la hauteur de nos attentes (40ième sur 47).
Malgré tout nous avons beaucoup appris et espérons mettre en application nos nouvelles connaissances pour la prochaine régate, Les championnat Nord-Américains de 49er.

OLYMPIC PREVIEW
(Past ISAF president Paul Henderson provides Scuttlebutt with a preview on
this week’s Rolex Miami Olympic Classes Regatta in Miami, FL.)

The success of the Rolex Miami Olympic Classes Regatta is clearly stated by
the 2007 event having the largest entry in their history, where 850 sailors
from 48 countries are in attendance, with 3/4 of the participants foreign to
the USA. The international sailing community loves Miami and the USA. The
Miami Olympic Training Centre, with major patrons Schoonmakers and
Whittons - both Olympic families - is an example on what makes Olympic
sailing work. This shows that Olympic sailing is healthy where local clubs
are focused on competitive racing.

All the 11 Olympic Classes are well supported and some are growing
significantly, such as the Tornado (42) and 49er (50) along with the
resurgence of Windsurfing with the new RS-X. The Star (67) and Finn (50) are
the two senior classes that are very healthy, and both serve a required need
in Olympic sailing. Naturally, the Laser is over the top with 115 men and 69
women entries. It is encouraging to note the growth of the women's entries
in both the 470 and Yngling. Additionally, the total inclusion of the
Paralympic sailors in the Skud, 2.4m, and Sonar racing out of their
wonderful name "Shake-a-Leg" is rewarding to all involved. (I do not like
the word "Disabled")

11 Olympic events is not excessive compared to other similar water sports,
so it is sad that we will be cut back to ten for London in the most
successful sailing nation today and also a remote venue. When the IOC cuts
entries back they cut out the emerging sailing nations but still sailing
gets more countries entered than well over 50% of the other Olympic sports.
To prostitute the integrity of the sport that we all love for some increased
TV dream is unfortunate to say the least, if not unobtainable. By keeping to
its roots, sailing has become an example for modern popular thinking;
environmentally friendly and open to all sizes, shapes and genders. A truly

Today was the first day of the Canadian Sailing Team 49er camp.
We were 3 boats training with coach M-A Littee.
Winds of 15 knots all day made it a fantastic day.
This is great training.

Aujourd'hui nous sommes sorti dans 15-18 noeuds de vent. Des conditions parfaites pour vraiment tester notre nouveau bateau.
À part quelques petits ajustements à faire il est prêt et surtout beaucoup plus rapide que nos derniers bateaux.
Nous en sommes très content.

J'ai fait du ski avec Virginie cette fin de semaine. Samedi à mont Tremblant sur 5 pistes et de bonnes conditions de neige. Dimanche nous sommes allez à mont Saint-Sauveur et les conditions n'étaient pas super mais bon c'est du ski avant le mois de décembre donc ça vallait la peine!!

Nous avons un nouveau 49er pour l'Amérique du Nord. CAN 821 est un bateau presque neuf. Son dernier propriétaire vient d'Ottawa et va se concentrer sur le 505 plutôt que le 49er.
Nous avons vraiment hâte de l'essayer au début décembre.

We have a new boat for the winter. CAN 821 is almost new as it's last owner didn't use it more than 15 times. We are really happy and can't wait to try it out in Miami.

We have now been sailing in Cascais, Portugal for the last 3 days. The wind is a not as strong as expected but the waves are big. We have a lot to learn here. The other Canadians, Ben & Gordo are training with us everyday (on and off the water). This is really good training.

Nous sommes bien arrivé au Portugal. Cascais est super, avec des grosses vagues même par petit temps, nous avons beaucoup à apprendre. L'autre équipe Canadienne s'entraîne avec nous tous les jours ce qui nous aide beaucoup.

It looks like it's over. No wind so no racing today. Since we arrived it's the first time today that the wind is too light to sail!
We officially finished 17th/26. I a little improvement. We have to keep training hard, smarter.

UK National Ranking Regatta 2

Day 1 :

Typical Weymouth conditions today as we started the day with 20 knots average to finish it with 25 knots average and puffs well above 30 (that is from the wind meter at the sailing academy...so not our imagination).
26 boats registered. We got a 20, 23, 12.
Really happy about the third race as it was the windiest one and we race with the boat under our feet and mast in the air for the 3 laps.
Tomorrow is suppose to be a very light wind day (if we trust windguru).

Première journée de course et nous avons eu droit à des conditions typiquement Anglaise : une moyenne de 20 noeuds pour commencer la journée qui rapidement augmenter à 25 noeuds et raffales de plus de 30 noeuds!!
Avec 26 bateaux inscrits nous avons eu une 20 ième place, 23 et une 12 ième place (enfin :).
Lors de la dernière course nous avons réussit à boucler les trois tours du parcours sans chavirer au moment le plus venteux de la journée. Un exploit personnel :)
Demain il ne devrait pas y avoir trop de vent d'après la météo mais c'est à voir.

We have been training for the last 7 days.
The winds have been good and we learned a lot about tension adjustment.
Today we trained with the Austrian team and learned a lot. We event passed them a couple of times :)

Nous nous sommes entraîné les 7 dernières journées avec pas mal de vent. Le but était d'apprendre à sentir le bateau et le mât pour pouvoir bien ajuster ce dernier.
Nous avons passer les 3 dernières heures à nous entraîner avec les Autrichiens. C'était bon surtout que nous avons réussit à les dépassers quelques fois.

GBR secret camp

Team GBR is hosting a "secret" camp out of the sailing academy. We have to lauch and train from the parking lot.
But don't worry, we are staying active. We started the Canadian training camp with all countries invited but England :)

Sail for Gold 1

44 bateaux inscrits, 3 jours de course.
Nous avons vraiment eu du mal lors de cette course. C'est là qu'on voit qu'il faut nous entraîner avec d'autres bateaux pour travailler sur la vitesse.
Au moins, nous avons beaucoup appris et voulons travailler fort pour ne plus se retrouver au bas du classement (http://www.ryaevents.org.uk/sailforgold/docs/uploaded/49er.htm)
Il va vraiment falloir que nous trouvions un commanditaire ou 2 ou 3 pour avoir de l'équipement qui a de l'allure car il n'y a définitivement pas d'amateurs ici!

Wow the level is really high here. We spent 3 days being passed by boats. It is really important we work with other boats on speed tuning and find some sponsors to get the proper equipement.
One thing for certain, we will work really hard to not be at the bottom of the result sheet again.

Uk National Ranking Regatta

Well it was a hard week end.
We had to sail in 20 knots + conditions and didn't have much time to practice before the weekend.
On the first day of training we only finshed 1 out of the 3 races. Hard physicaly and mentaly.
The Sunday races started a bit better with our first upwind in the top 10 (out of 40 boats). We held our spot for most of the race but had a 360 penalty to do and a capsize on the finish line.
We were still happy to know that we could make it if we eliminate our mistakes. The following 2 races were sailed in fresh conditions. We kept improving and finished the day with a 26, right behind our Canadian partners, Ben & Gordo.

Today we went for 2 sessions on the water for a total of 4h30min of on the water training. We'll be training all week.

Ce fut une fin de semaine difficile.
Les conditons de vents étaient dûres et nous n'avions pas eu l'opportunité de nous entraîner avant la régate.
La première journée nous avons seulement fini une des trois courses ce qui été dûr physiquement et mentalement.
Les courses du dimanche se sont mieux passées. Nous avons même eu des moments où nous étions parmis les 10 premiers (sur 40).

Yesterday we manage to go out in 15 knots. It was a very nice first sail, our boat is in very good conditions.
Today we have a few more things to adjusts and the boat will be ready for this weekend's race.

Je reviens de 3 jours au Manitoba où j'ai entraîneur l'équipe de 29er de cette province.
Les conditions étaient musclés avec des vagues de prêt de 1m50 et 15 noeuds de vent.

49er CORK : 9 boats (49er Canadians)
Wind : medium and shifty expect for one day of breeze
Result : 2nd

We are really happy with our results. Now is the time to work on our weaknesses : wind and fleet racing.

J'ai terminé 8ième sur 52 dans la régate de 29er (championnat Nord-Américain) et nous avons fait 2ième sur 9 bateau en 49er (championnat Canadien). Nous sommes content de ces résultat obtenus dans des conditions difficiles.
Nous allons maintenant continuer de travailler sur nos faiblesses : la voile par gros temps et la voile en flotte.

Kingston training

Montreal One Design Regatta

De retour à Montréal, quoi de mieux que de pouvoir faire une régate locale pour se remettre à l'entraînement.
Nous avons naviguer dans des vents léger avec 2 autres bateaux. Ça faisait changement des flottes Européennes mais c'était quand même challengeant car les conditions étaient très changeantes.
Nous avons fini premier de cette petite flotte.
La prochaine étape est CORK à la fin du mois.

Montreal One Design was a good challenge this year because of the conditions. We were only 3 boats but we sail in the type of wind where if you don't pay close attention to shifts and puffs you can go from 1st to last in a blink.
We sailed well and won this small regatta.
All our focus is now on CORK at the end of the month.

Nous sommes très content de notre première expérience internationnale sur le circuit des 49er. Nous avons beaucoup appris et avons pris beaucoup de notes pour améliorer nos entraînement et tactiques de courses.
Nous savons que nous pouvons réussir notre campagne Olympique, le potentiel est là, il nous reste maintenant à trouver le financement.

We are back from Weymouth and really happy that we made it to the Europeans. The experience we gained there will help us to continue our quest towards the Olympics.
Now we have to train hard and find money to keep our campaign afloat.

Ottawa Skiff Grand-Prix

Ottawa Skiff Grand-Prix c'est bien passé. Nous n'avions pas une très bonne vitesse avec notre vieux bateau mais nous avons quand même bien battaillé avec les 4 autres concurrents.
CAN 295 (notre bateau) a terminé en deuxième position juste derrière CAN 605 (Trev et Waldie).

Nous allons maintenant courrir sur CAN 605 pendans les prochains mois.
